A coffer with a domed lid. Clothes were often kept in these and were kept locked.

A bound and barred trunk.It was used for travelling, and was often reinforced and protected with iron bars.

Linen was very valuable and had to have secure storage. In 17th century inventories sheets,napery and bed hanging were often mentioned.

As well as storing linen coffers were also used for storing candles.The candle boxes were underneath the lid at each end of the coffer.
