BEGONIA SHOW
Annual Pirton Event
The numerous other attractions on Wednesday appear to have lessened the interest taken in Pirton begonia show for the entries at this annual event were far below usual in number, and not so many people attended.
???? Postgate of Shillington was unable to open the show as arranged, and this duty was performed by the Vicar, the Rev. W.T. Winkworth.
There was a variety of garden produce and flowers, in addition to begonias, on view, and a number of stalls and sideshows, those in charge being: refreshments, Miss Shepherd, Mrs. Males and Mrs. Arnold: skittles, Mr. Arthur Males: darts and rings, Mr. James Odell: hidden treasure and lucky pail, Mr. Robert Odell: cake competition Mrs. Odell and Miss Ivy Odell: button-holes, Ena Odell and Vera West.
CHILD CUP WINNER
Ena Odell won the silver cup for the best begonia in the children’s class and another silver cup, also presented by Mrs. Winkworth, was won by Mr. Robert Odell.

Onions : Mr. Frank Goldsmith, who returned his prize for the church funds.

Dish of eggs : Mr. Amos Reynolds, who offered them for sale for the funds.
Rhubarb : h.c., Nathaniel Winkworth.
COMPETITION WINNERS
Cake, Mrs. Hoyt, Mrs. L. Odell and Mr. Stocker ; lighting candles, 1. Mrs. Winkworth ; 2. Mrs. James Odell. Mrs. Winkworth returned her prize : sweets in bottle, Connie Willett, Nathaniel Winkworth, Miss H. Gibbs and Mr. Hodge. The last three named gave their shares to Connie Willett ; ticket prize, Mrs. MacKenzie.
Janet Males won the first prize in the children’s painting competition and a special prize was awarded to Lionel Arnold.
Donars of prizes were: Messrs T. Brooker and Sons (bread-knife) : Cake-bread, Robey and Co. (spade) : Messrs R. Harkness (roses) : Mrs. J. Odell (sweets) : Mr. E. Males (cake) : the Vicar and Mrs. W.T. Winkworth (silver cups).
Donations were received from Ellis and Everard. Sayer and Son, Messrs Simkins, Mrs. Taylor. After the show the majority of the exhibits were sold in aid of the fund, a little more than £8 being raised.
